Focus: Brand Identity and Design Language
Duration: 2 Months
Skills: Sketching, Model Making, Product Positioning, Personas, CMF
Software: SolidWorks, KeyShot, Photoshop
This project allowed me to create a new product for an existing brand and position it accordingly. Distilling FitBit's essence from their mission statement, design language, price point, and reputation was a fun task. I sort of felt like a detective while trying to uncover their identity in order to weave it into my own work.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS PROJECT
I learned how to understand and analyze brand identity and design language.
I positioned this design to align with the FitBit's values of total health, which include physical health, mental health and sleep. I wanted it to position my speaker to target yoga, meditation and breath-work.
Researching the history of Fitbit's products helped me learn their design language.
Inspire, Empower, Motivate
Fitbit uses these words to describe their brand.
Soft, Friendly, Seamless, Smart
I believe that these adjectives describe FitBit's overall design language. Altogether they describe calmness and seamlessness. You can read this language in the rounded corners and edges of the watch faces and in the soft silicone wristbands.
